Week One: Riding Around the WorldWeek One: From Helsinki to Warsaw

Hello, everyone! I’m excited to share with you my motorcycle adventure around the world. I started from Helsinki, Finland, and I’m going counterclockwise. This week, I crossed Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Poland. It was a challenging but rewarding week. Here are some of the details.

Estonia

I left Helsinki early in the morning and took a ferry to Tallinn, Estonia. I arrived in the afternoon and explored the old town. I admired the medieval buildings and walls. I also had a soup and a beer for lunch.

I continued my ride and reached Tartu in the evening. I found a hostel to spend the night. The next day, I visited the university and the museum of Estonian history. I also had a kama (flour) and kefir (fermented milk) for breakfast.

Latvia

I left Tartu and crossed the border into Latvia. I rode along the A2 highway and reached Riga. I was impressed by the art nouveau architecture and the freedom monument. I also had a piragi (pastry) and a kvass (fermented drink) for snack.

I continued my ride and reached Liepaja in the evening. I found a guesthouse to spend the night. The next day, I explored the beach and the naval port. I also had a karbonade (pork chop) and a sklandrausis (pie) for lunch.

Lithuania

I left Liepaja and crossed the border into Lithuania. I rode along the A11 highway and reached Klaipeda. I enjoyed the harbor and the old town. I also had a cepelinai (dumpling) and a gira (fermented drink) for dinner.

I continued my ride and reached Vilnius in the evening. I found a hotel to spend the night. The next day, I visited the cathedral and the castle. I also had a kugelis (potato cake) and a sultys (juice) for breakfast.

Belarus

I left Vilnius and crossed the border into Belarus. I rode along the M7 highway and reached Minsk. I was surprised by the modern buildings and monuments. I also had a draniki (potato pancake) and a kvas (fermented drink) for lunch.

I continued my ride and reached Brest in the evening. I found a motel to spend the night. The next day, I visited the fortress and the museum of war history. I also had a machanka (pork stew) and a kompot (fruit drink) for dinner.

Poland

I left Brest and crossed the border into Poland. I rode along the E30 highway and reached Warsaw. I was amazed by the old town and the palace of culture and science. I also had a pierogi (dumpling) and a zywiec (beer) for snack.

Issues with my motorcycle

My motorcycle gave me some trouble this week. It broke down once: in Belarus. It was due to a loose chain. I had to find a mechanic and wait for repairs. Luckily, I had some tools with me. I also had a warranty and insurance for my bike.

Local issues

I faced some local issues this week as well. In Estonia, I had to deal with some icy roads and snowstorms. In Latvia, I had to avoid some traffic jams and roadworks. In Lithuania, I had to beware of some speed cameras and fines. In Belarus, I had to deal with some checkpoints and visa problems. In Poland, I had to cope with some pollution and noise.

Last stop

I ended this week in Warsaw, Poland. It’s a beautiful city with a lot of history and culture. I’m looking forward to exploring it more tomorrow.

That’s all for this week. Stay tuned for more updates on my motorcycle adventure around the world!
